Thar She Blows! Mt. Redoubt has Blown…
The eruption of Mt. Redoubt, in Southern Alaska, started to blow around 11:30 last night sending an ash cloud 50,000 feet above sea level! There has been an official ash fall advisory that is in effect until 8:00 p.m. tonight, if you haven’t picked up any dust masks, you should do it now. Make sure that your windows and doors are all sealed tight. Cover up all your air intakes and open water supplies, and limit your driving as much as possible. The ash will continue blowing to the Northeast and is expected to pass west of Anchorage, according to Dave Schneider, a geophysicist with the Alaska Volcano Observatory.
The last time Mt. Redoubt erupted it was in December of 1989 and it lasted until April of 1990. Remember that the ash that comes from volcanoes is abrasive, not like the ash that you would find at the bottom of a fire pit, inhaling it could cause some serious respiratory conditions.
