Using the Sun in Florida for Energy? What a Novel Idea….

Published by wind at 8:34 am under Environmental News Edit This

finally a winner

Up 1.45 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions could very well be eluded starting in 2011, due to a contract that was signed with Tampa Electric and Energy 5.0 in Polk County Florida!

By using silicon-based photovoltaic panels, enough solar energy to power more than 3,400 homes on a 200-400 acre site in Polk County, is in the works. The contract is for this 25-megawatt facility is proposed to be constructed by 2011 and should carry out for 25 years.

Although the deal still must be approved by the Florida Public Service Commission, I’m pleased to know that Florida is taking the energy crisis seriously enough to move forward in a green direction. Every small step forward to reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a step in the right direction!

Yay for Tampa!
