Obama’s Economic Stimulus Plan Includes Energy Efficiency

Published by wind at 7:48 pm under Environmental News, The Green Scene Edit This

President-elect Obama has announced the urgency for the new stimulus package that will include the creation of ‘green jobs’ in order to jump-start the economy and help to create an energy-efficient nation! Yay, Obama!

Under Obama’s stimulus plan a few of the commitments that the government will make would include:

1. Rebate checks for those that invest in large energy-efficient appliances, such as A/C units, refrigerators, and washer and dryers.

2. Tax breaks for developers that construct energy-efficient commercial buildings.

3. Energy-efficient programs at schools.

4. Restructuring public buildings with energy plans, such as energy audits and ’smart meters’ that allocate power more efficiently.

5. Expanding the current state energy efficient programs.

The stimulus plan would be a $30 billion dollar commitment that could add up to an energy consumption savings of $1 trillion a year, in addition to a possible creation of 190,000 jobs in the short term! Energy efficiency is obviously something that the country needs to invest in and with an unemployment rate the highest that it has been since WWII, the country is in desperate need of job creation, sounds like a win-win to me!
