Last night when I was getting ready to leave the house, I caught a glimpse of the moonrise! Wow..what I spectacular sight it was! For those of you that noticed that the moon was particularly bright, there was indeed a reason for this.

Last night the full moon was closer to the earth than it has been in the last fifteen years, it was just over 350,000 km away, about 30,000 km closer than it normally is. There are many times that the full moon appears bigger and brighter than usual, this is called the ‘moon illusion’, this phenomena occurs when the moon is close to the horizon, making the moon appear both brighter and larger than normal, however last night it was no illusion!

If you get a chance tonight, step outside and take a gander, I promise it’ll be worth it!

Here’s to hoping for clear skies and bright moonlight again this evening!
