5 Tips for Saving Gas

Published by wind at 9:26 pm under The Green Scene Edit This

Did you know that for every gallon of gasoline that you burn up in your vehicle nineteen pounds of carbon dioxide is emitted? Below are a few gas saving tips and ideas that will help you save money and the planet.

1. Following the speed limit and avoiding quick acceleration or braking saves on gas (and speeding tickets). If your vehicle comes with cruise control, use it, it will help you maintain a steady speed.

2. Combine your trips, by setting up one day a week for all your errands. Cold starting your car for several different trips wastes energy, time and gas.

3. Don’t bother warming up your car, with the technology of today’s cars you really don’t need to, they do that quicker while moving.

4. Keep your tires at the proper inflation and unload your trunk of anything that you don’t need while you are out.

5. Keep your car tuned up and make sure that you change the oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months, which ever comes first.

Here’s a handy dandy calculator that will allow you to compare the car you drive’s gas mileage with the new Hybrid.
